Vine Ventures, Kolon Pharmaceutical, New Paradigm, etc.
LEESOL, a healthcare start-up that operates an electronic drug platform for brain disease prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, announced on the 2nd that it has attracted 4 billion won worth of Series A investment from VC (venture capital) and pharmaceutical companies such as Vine Ventures and Kolon Pharmaceutical.
This investment attraction is the first time in more than a year since it received 500 million won in Free A investment from New Paradigm Investment last year. In particular, it is very meaningful because it is an investment made amid the lack of investment attraction in pharmaceutical bio.
Lysol is an electronic medicine healthcare startup established in October 2017 to provide healthy solutions to degenerative brain diseases such as dementia, beyond mental disorders such as sleep disorders and depression. It was founded by Dr. Lee Seung-woo, founder of the first-generation medical device company Medison, and co-CEO Kwon Sung-woo, a former patent attorney.
Vine Ventures participated as an anchor investor and invested 1.5 billion won in this Series A investment, and Kolon Pharmaceutical, Korea Alternative Investment Asset Management, New Paradigm Investment, and Finders participated. In particular, Kolon Pharmaceutical participated as a strategic investor (SI) in relation to electronic drugs such as depression, and New Paradigm Investment as a follow-up investment company following Free A investment.
Lysol was recently selected as the Deep Tech Tips (TIPS) of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and secured up to 1.7 billion won in research and development funds, and was also selected for the Electronic Drug Technology Development Project of the first Health and Medical Technology Research and Development Project, which the Ministry of Health and Welfare conspired to secure a total of 1.1 billion won in R&D subsidies.
Lysol is developing a platform business for diagnosing degenerative brain diseases (Alzheimer’s, etc.) and treating psychiatric diseases (sleep disorders, depression, etc.) through brain stimulation and EEG tuning technology. In 2019, it succeeded in developing a “Sleepisol” device, a device for improving sleep disorders and preventing dementia using tACS-type head electrical stimulation (CES). It has undergone multiple clinical trials at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, and has also passed the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) safety standards. This product, which is effective in improving sleep disorders and preventing dementia by promoting the secretion of sleep-related brain neurotransmitters such as serotonin, melatonin, and GABA, is currently on sale in Japan, the United States, and Korea. Since its initial launch in May 2021, the “Sleepy Sol Series” has achieved accumulated sales of about 25,000 units and accumulated sales of about 2.3 billion won.
CEO of Lysol Kwon Koo-seong said, “We believe in Lysol’s technology and development potential and thank the investment companies for investing 4 billion won. We plan to continue to secure the sales route of wellness products along with clinical trials of medical devices, he said. “We want to continue to introduce new products that diagnose and treat various brain diseases from sleep disorders to depression and dementia by innovating human mental healthcare based on brain science.”
